Let's Try This Again

Alrighty then. Because of my computers suicide, and my lack of camera, I'm starting my experiment over. This will now carry from December 1, 2010 through December 1, 2011. Not that I mind, because I have fallen in love with my adorned buns :)

I've got new pics though from the past few days.

Saturday 12/4: I didn't go anywhere. I had to wait on Art Van to send out a leather repair man since some movers scuffed up my leather couch >:( I cowashed, detangled, and moisturized earlier in the day, so this bun was fairly wet. The hairsticks are from a seller on ebay. Her stuff is super cute, and really inexpensive! I love her sticks and snatch them up whenever they are listed!

Sunday 12/5: I spent the day having "girl time" with my little princess, so my hair actually never came out of the pig tails that I sleep in.
Monday 12/6: I worked a double shift and totatlly meant to take a picture, but I was so tired lol! And the cold air really dried my hair out (I haven't finished making my winter hat) and it looked really bad lol!
Tuesday 12/7: I had to work today, but I remembered to snap a pic before I left the house! This is a Tahitian Jadewood Ketylo.

Back In Business!!!

Ok. So I am back! I'm so excited because my computer is better than ever, and I've got tons of new hair toys to play with :D I don't have many pics of my new buns yet because I have a new hard drive. I've decided to mesmerize everyone with my dazzling hair accessory collection instead. LOL, it's actually pretty miniscule...but growing everyday! **insert evil laugh & hand wringing here**

Starting Fresh

So the past few weeks have been pretty crazy for me. I moved......far away! LOL. But it took a lot longer than I expected. Then in the midst of the moving fun, my laptop decided that it no longer wanted to be of this world :( But my BFF's brother (who will be heretofore referred to as "the computer whisperer" took it, worked his "computer whisperer" magic and now it's better than before!

I'm so excited because what turned out to be a $70 fix was plaguing my computer for MONTHS!!!!! The first thing I'm gonna do when I get it back, hopefully tomorrow, is make a video using my web cam that I never got to use!

So the moral of the story is....never download a debilitating virus onto your computer and then do nothing about it lol! Until then....HHG!!

Week 3 of 52

Monday 10/25: After recovering from illness over the weekend, it was back to work on Monday :( I had to detangle my MATTED hair from the weekend. It was a tough task, but I labored through it. I used a really neat fork that I purchased from ebay to hold my bun up.

Tuesday 10/26: I'm in the process of moving so, and had an appointment to view a house (that I was running late for) so I threw my hair up with a KETYLO stick in Tahitian Jadewood.

I can't wait for my hair to get longer. I'm really tired of my curly ends hanging out of every bun :(
I have to download the rest of my pics from my sister's camera, so I'll be back with the rest of week 3 later!

Week 2 of 52

So obviously, I'm a horrible blogger lol. But in my defense I've been very busy with moving and work. So onto the the past few weeks.

Monday 10/18: I was going on 3 days of unwashed hair (which is a long time for me). But I managed to come up with a cute and simple style in time for work. I threw my hair up in a modified figure 8 bun since my hair isn't long enough to make a full figure 8. I secured it with a flexi 8. I love these!
Tuesday 10/19: I was in serious need of a good co-washing on this day! And I was running late, so I threw my hair up with a cheap 2sided hair comb from a local beauty supply store.

Wednesday 10/20: I had Wednesday off, so I gave my hair a good pampering! I co washed with Vo5 Champagne Kiss Conditioner. I don't know what it is about this stuff, but it literally melts my tangles away and it smells so good! Then I DC'd with a combination of Suave Humectant, honey, Giovanni Smooth as Silk, and EVCO. I did a home grown steam treatment using hot towels and a heating cap. I didn't take any pictures of my pre-washed hair :/ But I got some good shots of the final product of my hard work:

Thursday 10/21: Back to work! I took my freshly steamed hair and put it up using a smaller flexi 8.

Friday 10/22: I did my usual chignon again on Friday, but I switched things up and used a jeweled pelican clip to hold it up. I really liked the way it swooped out kind of far on one side :)
Saturday 10/23 & Sunday 10/24: I was SICK all weekend. I went to Big Boys Friday night and thoroughly regretted it for the rest of the weekend :( But, I managed to still keep my hair up lol! It was a horrible tangled mess to deal with on Sunday night, but I still kept my bun in :D

A Starting Reference

I guess I should give some type of starting point for measuring sake :)

This is my hair straightened. This was day 4, and it had been mostly in buns, so it's not completely straight. Ignore my sister's room lol. As you can see, my hair is about 2 inches above my bra strap. This pic was taken on September 12,2010.

Week 1 of 52 10/13-10/17

I came up with this idea and this blog on Tuesday 10/12/10. So, my 365 days officially starts on the 13th of October. So I'll be tracking my growth/progress/setbacks (hopefully these won't occurr) from that day. Onto the pictures! I worked all weekend so I kept the styles pretty simple:

Wednesday 10/13: I used a glass hairstick from this seller. It took some trial and error to figure out how to work it, but I finally got it lol!
I adjusted it later in the day so it didn't stick so far out of my head. But overall, it held nicely and didn't cause any discomfort.....(excuse my nails because my daughter "did" my nails earlier in the day :)

Thursday 10/14:Had to work once again, so nothing fancy. This time, I used a KETYLO from Sticks and Stones. The customer service on that site is out of this world!!

Friday 10/15: No picture for this day. I just used a different color of the above stick, it was virtually the same bun lol.

Saturday 10/16: I know this style isn't exactly a bun, but it's an updo and those count towards the experiment as well :) I used a custom hair stick from Sticks and Stones again. I really liked this style!

Sunday 10/17: I was feeling a little flirty on Sunday, so I decided to change up the pace. I used Goody Spin Pins to make my bun. I use one to anchor my hair to my head and another just for extra hold, but one usually does the job. Then I added a flower from my slightly out of hand collection. I got it, and several others, from this vendor.

That's all for week one and thank you for reading!

Salutations!

Hello Everyone!

I've been on my HHJ since January of 2010. Through a lot of trial and error I found a regimen that works for me and my lifestyle. The cornerstone of that regimen is bunning. I'm sure everyone knows the benefits of bunning and keeping your ends moisturized and protected. But let's face it, buns are boring!

I'm here to reclaim the Granny Bun! This blog is to provide a pictoral/written journal of my experiment that I like to call "365 Days of Dressed up Buns". The plan is simple:

I'll be wearing my hair in a bun everyday for the next 365 days.....BUT! I will not use any ponytail holders ( I have unintentional layers from years of too tight ponytails), and every day there has to be some sort of adornment in my hair. Right now I'm very into the ease and versitility of hairsticks. They are really fun and pretty to wear! My other options include flower clips, pelican clips, hair-zings, hair forks, hair combs and anything else I can get to safely and securely hold my bun. I'll also be using spin pins, hair pins, or other invisible holding agents but some type of barrette or other adornment will have to accompany those, since these are 'dressy buns'.

I will be allowing myself roughly 1 pass per month to wear my hair down (but I'm gonna try hard not to use them).

The whole point of this 'experiment' is to grow my hair to great lengths. I'm currently 2 inches above BraStrap Length. I'm hoping my experiment takes me to Tailbone Length (that probably won't happen in a year though lol).

So that's my introduction and thank you for reading!
